Yes, absolutely, for those intending to teach.  Our program is an Advanced Teacher Training program.  Successful completion of all parts of our curriculum will earn students a diploma from the EVYS, and graduates can then apply to Yoga Alliance to become a Registered Yoga Teacher (RYT) at the 300 or 500 hour level.  In addition, students can also start the process of becoming a CIYT – Certified  Iyengar Yoga Teacher.

7. Tell us about the “Deepen Your Heart” Track.
Those who wish to enroll in the program to deepen their practice will serve as students in the classes when those intending to teach are teaching, and no practicum will be required.  These students will be encouraged to complete all homework assignments and take all tests.  These students will not earn a diploma from the EVYS.

8. Will students be required to take public classes outside of the weekends of the EVYS 300 hour program?  And if so, who are the teachers?
Having a weekly practice with a CIYT throughout the course is a major component of the YA contact hour requirement.  Students must have 95 hours of attendance in classes taught by CIYT’s.  In the San Antonio area, they are Debbie Pedersen, Emilie Rogers, and Sreedhara Akkihebbalu. Students can travel to Austin to attend public classes with our Faculty, or any other CIYT.

9. How much extra yoga practice will be required?
Students must attend 15 hours of workshops with Senior level Iyengar yoga teachers such as Arun, Jawahar Banjera, Laurie Blakeney, Randy Just, Peggy Kelley, Stephanie Quirk, Carrie Owerko and Peggy Kelley.  Students will receive a schedule of workshops to choose from.

10. What are the additional costs of the program?
  • Required books
  • Required classes with public class teachers
  • Required workshops with Senior Level Iyengar Yoga Teachers

11. What books and materials will be required?
Please see the Required and Recommended Reading List, the Registration Form and other information posted on our website.

12. Describe the Practicum requirement.
Students will need to teach classes in our community to practice their skills learned in class.  Some may already teach; some will be assigned to teach in programs that bring yoga to those who don’t have ready access to yoga teaching.  Lesson Plans are required.  Faculty will observe live teaching or video of teaching.

13. If our previous YA 200 hour program was not the EVYS, what will I need to do to be prepared to join the EVYS 300 hour advanced teacher training program?
Students who have not graduated from our program must email Emilie Rogers to receive a list of materials that will help them refine their knowledge and be ready to participate in January.  There will be a Pre-Test given to all students to assess what needs to be reviewed.
